Designer Isaac Silva is one of the most active voices of the new moment that SPFW and Brazilian fashion are experiencing. His collections are full of meanings, guided by the motto “Believe in Se Axé”. From the debut at the event, in 2019, with a total white look and catwalk with rue and coarse salt, to the last presentation, in which he paid tribute to the drag Paulista Marcia Pantera, Isaac always shows a fashion with a purpose.

The LGBTQIA + party that it hosted on the catwalk of the fashion event in Sao Paulo is proof of this and of the act of resisting and including, to which many brands have launched. In addition to the 70s disco looks and others with a more relaxed vibe, the collection was produced with the workmanship of trans men and women. Another step forward in the textile supply chain in relation to the showcase that the fashion shows can become, without anything effective can happen at the end of the presentation.

On the eve of the return of the LGBTQIA + Pride Parade on Paulista Avenue, on June 19, in which Portal Terra, partner of the “Them on the red carpet”, is one of the official sponsors, Isaac Silva, whose brand was created in 2015, with the aim of challenging racial prejudice through creations full of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous references, also speaks out against gender bias. Take a look at the excerpts from the exclusive interview to which the designer gave “Them on the red carpet”.
Them on the red carpet – In the latest SPFW, the LGBTQIA + community was represented in almost every parade, including yours. Do you think this is a big step or is there still a long way to go before the inclusion of communities hitherto considered minorities in fashion, as well as blacks and plus sizes, is seen as normal?
Isaac Silva – It’s a big step every time, as the big fashion industry draws heavily from the community source. Fashion is a perfect industry, what makes it sometimes not prominent is that some brands and designers are prejudiced and limited, and sometimes the mainstream media helps a lot to spread it in a negative way. We have always been there, we will always exist and will resist, what changes is only the positioning.
Them on the red carpet – His parade was an act of resistance in favor of the LGBTQIA + community. You comment a little on this, on the idea and on how fashion can be the spokesperson against prejudices.

Isaac Silva – The Isaac Silva brand has been a political brand since its creation in 2015. We have a positive position on how fashion can be assertive and beneficial to the world we live in. We believe in more diverse fashion and this is what we show with each collection and every year we grow, forging partnerships, great collaborations and opening stores. Fashion is always a major spokesperson, because it enchants people and touches them in a unique way.
Them on the red carpet – In addition to the show itself, the pieces in the collection will be made by a group of trans people. Talk a little about the need to make room for the community also behind the scenes.
Isaac Silva – The brand is fulfilling another dream of being able to have suppliers, a workforce made up of trans people, women and men with clothing workshops to meet our demand and that of other companies as well.
Them on the red carpet – What does the trans community lack to be accepted in the common work in companies and not just advertise for the public?
Isaac Silva – The prejudice, the lack of knowledge and the lack of humanity of companies. All this is such a great ignorance, a lack of love that prevents you from seeing love for your neighbor and not seeing the great and great professionals of the market.
Them on the red carpet – S.Speaking of the LGBTQIA + parade, how do you see it, what is its importance and how do you see it in this very difficult time that Brazil is going through?
Isaac Silva – We always believe, we are resistance, so “Believe in your Axé!”
