Imagine a hot dog cart. Now imagine 2 million snacks sold and an annual turnover reaching R $ 1.7 million. Well, this is exactly the story of Cachorro do Bonfa, which has already become a must see for anyone traveling to Porto Alegre-RS.
The business began in 1993, when the couple Flávio Soares and Eunice Antunes decided to change their business after a failed blacksmith business in Passo Fundo-RS.
“My father’s cousin had a hot dog in the north of Porto Alegre. At the time, my father, Flávio Soares, worked at Panambra, a traditional vehicle dealer of the time. After leaving the company, with the cessation, he started a sawmill in Passo Fundo with a partner. The partnership didn’t work out and the amount he had invested was turned into a hot dog cart that came from Passo Fundo in Porto Alegre. He has learned a lot from this cousin and over time has improved processes ”, explains Francini Magalhães, now general manager of Cachorro do Bonfa.
The story comes from a “cartã” of the region
The name Bonfa was inspired by a “carrotinha” from the Parque da Redenção, in 1993. At the time, Bonfa was known as Cachorro do Flávio. One fine day, a client who frequented it assiduously suggested that I change the name to Cachorro do Bonfa and create the first company logo. It was then that things took a turn to never stop.

Today Bonfa’s snacks compete for space with the region’s McDonald’s and Burger King, according to a study by Lola, a company specializing in management through brands.
Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, the company launched its own handmade mayonnaise in 2021. He recently created the delivery app and partnered with Brown Brownie. Bonfa, which has sold more than 2 million hot dogs since 1993, expects to close the year with a turnover of R $ 1.7 million and intends right now to maintain the rebranding process and further strengthen the brand.
