Nutritionist Luanna Caramalac explains the myth of sweets that hardly anyone can resist!
Who doesn’t like a sweetheart, right? If you don’t have sugar related problems, consuming it sporadically, without overdoing it and in the healthiest versions, is not a problem. Now, if the urge is intense and daily, there is something wrong.
In this case, we have a few possibilities:
- Hypoglycemia, when blood glucose levels are low and the craving for sweets comes 2 hours after a meal
- Inverted cortisol, when cortisol levels are high – from both stress and steroid use – and you lack sweets in the late afternoon, as well as lack of hunger in the morning;
- The lack of serotonin, the hormone of happiness, whose craving for sweets appears in the late afternoon and causes compulsion, followed by a sense of guilt;
- Fungal syndrome, or the imbalance of the intestinal microbiota due to the presence of bad fungi and bacteria, the consumption of sweets of which causes discomfort.
In all cases, a consultation with a specialist is essential, after all, assessing hormone rates and levels is the starting point for the ideal treatment.
In an associated way, even before the results, it is already interesting to adapt one’s habits in favor of a lighter routine: prefer healthy foods, regularize water intake, manage one’s emotions, practice physical activity and sleep peacefully!
