Increased libido and other effects of regular exercise

Maintaining an exercise routine improves sleep, concentration performance, and even sexual intercourse

Everyone knows that exercise is one of the greatest allies in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, whether with outdoor activities or in the gym. However, maintaining this routine is not yet a reality for the Brazilian people. According to the IBGE, only 30.1% practice the recommended level of physical activity.

Increased libido and other effects of regular exercise

Dr. Karina Santos, a family doctor at Sami – a health care provider in Sao Paulo – listed the 5 main factors that benefit the body of those who practice:

Lower blood pressure

Maintaining an exercise routine, even with daily walks, helps lower blood pressure because it improves blood circulation, which is a great benefit for those with hypertension. The activity also balances the levels of good cholesterol and reduces the bad one, decreasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart attack or stroke.

Strengthens bones and joints

Physical activities help strengthen bones and joints by promoting bone growth and increasing strength. This prevents osteoporosis and the risk of injuries, falls and fractures related to weakening of the bones.

Brings better sleep quality

Sleep is also affected by recurring activity practices. A study by the Johns Hopkins Center for Sleep at Howard County General Hospital in the United States showed that people who exercised for at least 30 minutes slept better on the day of the practice. Whether you sleep faster or even feel more relaxed and rested, sleep ends up being deeper and more restorative. This is due to the “positive” fatigue of the bones after exercise.

Increase libido

It sounds like a myth, but it’s not. Studies have already shown that maintaining an exercise routine helps to increase libido and improve sexual performance. A survey published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, for example, revealed that men who do not engage in physical activity are 50% more likely to have erectile dysfunction than those who do. And among women, those who practiced at least six hours of exercise had higher levels of arousal, desire, and lubrication than those who were sedentary. This is thanks to the improvement of blood circulation and the increase in physical endurance.

Improve your performance at work

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, there is also a greater performance at work after incorporating the exercises into everyday life. Physical activity can improve brain health, including improving memory and the ability to learn and focus, as well as reduce the chances of psychological illnesses such as depression and anxiety, as with activities, the neurotransmitters responsible for norepinephrine and serotonin – substances that cause happiness – increase the dosage in the human body.
