Some say it’s rosacea and others acne. However, the two conditions are quite different. While acne is a bacterial inflammatory process of the sebaceous glands and pilosebaceous follicles, rosacea is a chronic inflammatory vascular disease often caused by genetics.

But, after all, what is the case with Alisson Becker?

The dermatologist beautician Patricia Elijah explains that the goalkeeper is dealing with the consequences of rosacea. “Exposure to the sun and stressful situations are the main enemies of those who suffer from this problem,” he says.

“Excessive exposure to the sun can be harmful to skin health, causing blood vessels to dilate, sweat excessively and, as sweat has sodium, the skin becomes sensitive. The high temperature stimulates the production of sebum which serves as food for the bacteria,” he adds.

According to the specialist, the use of a high SPF sunscreen, with a calming and antioxidant action, is essential to prevent rosacea from causing pustules or even a deformation of the cartilage of the nose.

Although the 2022 World Cup has been scheduled for the end of the year to escape the high summer temperatures, however, in Qatar, the thermometers exceed 30ºC.

To ease inflammation, Patricia recommends washing your face with cold water and using a soap that’s appropriate for your skin type. “Using aloe vera, also known as aloe vera gel, mixed with a drop of French lavender essential oil is very good for skin recovery. A calming tonic or thermal water is also very welcome,” she explains.

The skin care routine can also be completed with a simple homemade chamomile recipe. “Chamomile acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory and soothing agent due to the chemical compounds present in its composition. The advice is to use the sachets as a cold compress on the face to reduce the feeling of swelling and inflammation”, suggests the beautician.

Food care is also essential to prevent the problem. Therefore, foods with a high concentration of sodium, sugar, fried foods, peppers, and alcoholic beverages should be avoided.

Together with the intake of water, turmeric, propolis, foods with vitamin C, zinc, magnesium and beta-carotene help prevent the problem.

The treatment of rosacea can be carried out in aesthetic clinics using pulsed light, led therapy, Ilib therapy, ozone therapy and calming active ingredients, for example.
