One study also found that more than half of Brazilians have already changed careers at least once
Changing jobs and professional areas has become increasingly common in Brazil in recent years, as the labor market and the economy have gone through great turmoil.
That’s what EBAC, an educational institution that offers more than 140 online courses focused on continuing education and professional skills development, discovered last month in a survey of 932 respondents.
According to the study, 52% of Brazilians have already changed careers at least once, with 19% having done so at least twice. The percentage is even higher among the over 55s (67%) who declared that they have already looked for a new entry into the market at least once, followed by the public between 35 and 54 years old (61%). Women are the ones who have changed careers the most (55%), while men are slightly below the national average (48.5%).
The most sought after areas
The EBAC survey also analyzed which areas are most sought after by those studying online with the intention of embarking on a new career and found that Design is the preferred field of these students (47%), followed by Programming & Data ( 31%) and Marketing (15%).
Overall, 58% of women study Design (against 32% of men) and 47% of them study Programming & Data, while 19.5% of the female public is trained in this vertical, showing a preference for each of these sectors of these groups.
For Tatiana Zanini, marketing director of EBAC, the results show that Brazilians are increasingly seeking professional reintegration, especially after the pandemic.
“We’ve seen an increase in this trend in recent years and it is expected to remain strong in 2023. Today, people increasingly want flexible jobs and careers that bring a greater sense of accomplishment,” she says.
Online courses are essential for outplacement seekers
According to the EBAC survey, taking a further education course is the first step in improving one’s career, with more than half of respondents (52%) saying they search for courses on the internet to qualify and get a new job.
Top reasons include getting a promotion or higher salary (46.5%), improving technical skills (45%), changing jobs (19%) and returning to the job market ( 12.5%).
Additionally, data indicates that after taking online courses, students feel better prepared to take on a new challenge in their career. According to the EBAC survey, 63.5% say they are ready for a new job or promotion after improving their skills.
“It is always important to qualify professionally and now this is even more valid, both in improving soft and hard skills in their area and obtaining salary increases or even promotions,” concludes Tatiana.
