The lips are made up of an extremely sensitive tissue, so the appearance of burns, dryness, cracks and lip fissures is common. And although common, the situation occurs mainly in very hot or cold periods, such as summer – which begins on December 21st – and winter.

While the two extreme temperatures cause things like sunburn, they happen for different reasons. The cold causes a type of burn which is due to dehydration. In periods of low temperature, c “It’s a decrease in the natural production of the glands that lubricate the region, so there’s more dryness because the skin is really less hydrated and lubricated, with the area more atrophic.”

And although the lips suffer from the influence of temperature, there are other factors that influence the dehydration of the region. “Besides using a lot of muscle movement, the oral mucosa comes into contact with food, drinks, saliva, cosmetics, especially lipsticks which do not always have natural pigments and contain allergenic preservatives. So it is a place that we must, yes, treat with great care, with specific products”, adds the expert.
