It gave the national fashion appreciation once again. The first lady Rosangela Lula da Silva, Janja, insisted once again to wear a look made in Brazil. Just like at her wedding, Lula’s wife wears a look designed by Helô Rocha, the same as her wedding dress in May.

Instead of a dress, she chose a beige set of trousers, vest and coat, with embroidery all around. Elegant, classic, modern and subverting the order of expectations. The first lady didn’t opt for the traditional dress and, once again, she opted for a Brazilian brand. With the choice of pose, you have shown that fashion can be flexible and break the rules, updating rigid codes, which until recently were not broken.

And it goes further. She plays the role of first lady, a title not wanted by her, who prefers to be called only by Janja, alongside the president and not as a mere graceful bibelo of the president. The look is once again created in collaboration with the embroiderers of Timbaúba, the same ones who also embroidered the wedding dress.

“I wanted to wear something that had symbolism for Brazil, for designers, for cooperatives and for Brazilian women,” said Janja, in an interview for Vogue magazine. “I want to take Brazilian designers wherever I go. Show them to the world, open the doors of commerce, of opportunities. If I can contribute, I will help,” the sociologist added to the magazine.

With embroideries made by artisans from the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte, in the city of Timbaúba do Batista, it took three months to make the wedding dress worn by Janja at her wedding in May. In an off-white hue, she features corset back modeling, puff sleeves, and a shoulder-to-shoulder neckline.

All these elements remain among the main trends and can compose productions for various occasions. Loose sleeves have been trending since before the pandemic and have remained going strong. The corset has invaded catwalks and store shelves. And the shoulder-to-shoulder neckline is also one of the hottest of the moment.
