Tatiana Weston-Webb’s five tips for good surfing

Choose a mentor or a surf school

Waiting for the new is natural, that is, you will not be the first, much less the last person to face it. Couldn’t you learn on the fly? Seek out a qualified professional who will provide you with a safe experience.

“A practical way for those who are new to the modality and have not learned it alone, with friends or as a child is to choose an experienced, reliable, professional or friend, who will give you the security and fundamental advice you need to improve your knowledge out of the sea and also in the water. It works a lot for those who want to learn from the smallest to the details with aids. In addition to improving, observing the right movements and technical notions, you will have more confidence even for practicing alone after the instructions”, he says Tatiana Weston-Webb exclusively for the sports life.

Prepare your body and mind

“Learning to surf is a challenge that requires physical and mental preparation, as well as a lot of training and practice. Stretch, train your breath and test your resistance. Some of these exercises are fundamental for the body before entering the water Good physical and mental preparation, becoming aware of the use of your body to practice the sport is essential to be able to learn and also to be 100% focused on the surf and the sea. Respect your limits and prepare to swim when necessary”, warns Tatiana.

Choose the type of board

The meticulous selection of this object makes all the difference. Accept the template the instructor will give you. This recommendation is aimed primarily at beginners.

“When we start surfing, people think they can go straight to a small (high performance) board, not an easy board, in fact it’s super hard. So, the best way to start surfing is at school and usually already make a specific type of board available for that and to get you started surfing your first waves. A foam board that doesn’t hurt you. Being very effective for beginners to use and also to learn safely,” explains Weston-Webb.

Find good places to practice

“It is important to know the sea and also to analyze what the swell (a set of smooth and uniform sea waves with regular time intervals between two waves) of the waves in which you will practice is like. good place where you know and trust start practicing in the water. Surfing already begins before entering the sea and as you adjust it is always important to be alert to signs, which can appear such as currents and wave size. Wave and sea preferences are not always the same among surfers Try to adapt to the sea conditions to start gaining more confidence”, warns Tati.

Keep practicing consistently

Only those who don’t give up win. Logically, for a pessimist of the moment, this sentence may sound like a commonplace, but it is not. Tatiana confirms that tenacity influences surfing.

“The secret in the end is not to give up. Surfing is a sport that requires effort from the body. Be persistent and always try to improve your knowledge and your practices. After all, just try several times to definitely learn. Be patient and establish a specific period and time to surf, talk to other surfers and always keep up to date with the waves”, analyzes the surfer.

The first leg of the world league will kick off on January 29 in Pipeline, Hawaii and conclude on February 10. Pipeline is the “ambiguous” circuit because it represents the dream and nightmare of surfers. Many call it the most feared wave on the planet. Tati comments again why to be different in competing in this industry.

“It’s different because the hardest thing at the Pipeline is practicing on the wave, because there’s always a super complicated crowd (sea/spot full of surfers) with all the good surfers in the water. So, it’s super hard to catch that perfect wave right now with the tube that will open. I consider this one of the factors that make it different and at the same time very difficult. Also, I think it is considered the most famous wave in the world!” concludes Weston -Webb.
