Headache: 4 valuable tips to stop suffering from headaches

Among the 150 types of headaches, some cause mild pain, others moderate, even disabling. These headaches can reach different regions of the head, as well as the possibility of being accompanied by other symptoms. Sensitivity to light, sound and smells, as well as nausea and vomiting are part of this list.

However, you have to pay attention to your headache. This is because part of these pains can be a secondary symptom of other pathologies, such as sinusitis, tumors and vision problems. Make sure you investigate the source of your pain and always consult your doctors!

For the other installment, when the headache itself is indeed the disease, there are specific treatments that can be done with neurologists. However, you can change your life on a daily basis by implementing simple attitudes.

To help you with this, the neurologist of the Santa Casa de São Paulo and the neurophysiologist of the HCFMUSP, Dr. Natália Longo, listed four essential behaviors in the life of those suffering from headaches:

Take care of your mental and emotional health

According to the doctor, stress can be considered one of the greatest enemies of health and quality of life. Therefore, it is also one of the biggest causes of headaches. To avoid headaches, it is essential to pay more attention to your mental health.

“My advice is that the patient find an activity that helps them relax, whether it’s a hobby, a massage, a leisure program or even meditation. Have good times,” recommends Longo.

Do some physical activity

It can be a more moderate physical activity, okay? Hiking, swimming, pilates and dancing are good options. They can help you both reduce stress and ease the intensity of your headache. This is because many studies have associated regular exercise with a reduction in the incidence of headaches. So try to include them in your routine!

Don’t go too long without eating and drink plenty of water.

It is always good to keep an eye on the food and the amount of water ingested. Fasting for several hours, for example, lowers blood sugar levels, which can be a trigger for pain. Therefore, migraine sufferers can never stop eating for so long!

Always try to eat every three hours, choosing healthy foods. Also, avoid processed and high-fat foods, which can also trigger flare-ups. Oh, and don’t forget to drink water!

“Most of the time, the patient does not even imagine that the reason for his headache may be a lack of water in the body, but this is more common than you think. The day goes by, and the person simply forgets that he needs to drink water and, when you realize it, you feel bad, that’s why drinking lots of water is essential for those who want to avoid headaches”, explains the neurologist.

avoid bad posture

The last piece of advice applies to everyone, but especially to those with headaches: avoid bad posture. Did you know that spending hours sitting or even standing with a poorly positioned spine can compress nerves over time? Therefore, a large local voltage can be generated.

And the result is a headache that is initially right there, near the neck. To prevent this from happening, plan a comfortable work environment and stretch throughout the day.
