First, it’s important to understand that tarot is a type of oracle, but there are some rules about it. Oracles are fluid and can feature almost any type of content. There are 78 cards in the tarot. Oracles, on the other hand, don’t have a set number of cards. Runes, for example, are a type of oracle that has 24 symbols + Odin’s rune. You can find them both in the form of letters and small stones, for example.

Tarot cards have a traditional structure and each card has the same meanings, yet there are many variations of tarot decks and many different interpretations of the cards. Most decks derive from Rider-Waite and their cards have the same meaning as other versions of tarot. The images and photos can be completely different, but often the message behind the cards is very similar. So with tarot, there is always a single theme running through most cards, whereas oracle cards (or any other material) generally don’t.

Energetically, oracles have a very strong vibration. They offer a very broad view of what is happening. Tarot cards can provide very detailed interpretations – after all, this oracle has 78 different cards that can also be interpreted in different ways when turned over, depending on the tarot reader’s approach.

Think of tarot cards as the pages of a book. When you’re reading a tarot card, it’s like a storybook, and each of those symbols is like a page in that story. With the other oracles in general, we can also reason in the same way, but, on the other hand, some simpler and less detailed ones can be metaphorically understood as the whole book or, therefore, a chapter of the book.

How to use tarot and other oracles together

Many people like to use tarot cards and other types of oracles together. Here are two ways to do it:

– At the beginning of a reading, draw a card (or at least a stone…) of the chosen oracle to understand the general theme or the feeling that is influencing the situation. What is the surrounding energy? Then do a multi-card tarot reading to get a fuller picture. Also, look for the theme that appeared in the other oracle in the tarot reading. You will often find tarot cards that explain in more detail what is going on.

– At the end of the tarot reading, draw a card (it is already clear that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a card, right?) to understand the summary of the tarot reading, or to give advice and recommendations, acting as a farewell message to the applicant ( or to yourself, as the case may be).
