Brown rice is not a 7-headed animal, just have a little patience and get the hang of it, and it works! And what many don’t know is that what differentiates it from white rice is precisely the time it takes to cook it. But that doesn’t mean brown rice needs special preparation, and the Cooking Guide explains it all in detail!
Rich in fiber and mineral salts, brown rice is one of the most practical options to add to the menu in a diet. Now, not everyone can get used to this type of rice and sometimes some people end up going back to the good traditional white rice.
Yet, what scares many people when it comes to this type of cereal is in relation to the preparation and not being able to make a brown rice. But today we will save you, after all, we have important tips for those who want to learn how to do it. Check below:
Learn how to prepare brown rice
Step 1
Before cooking the rice, soak it in water for about 3 to 4 hours first. This is because brown rice is unprocessed and contains an acid called phytate which slows down digestion. So, soaking helps eliminate the acid and make the grain “softer” which helps it cook faster.
step 2
The secret to melting brown rice starts at the time of cooking! In a pan put the oil and the chopped onion, fry the onion over low heat and then add the water, being careful because it can splash, you see? Then you can add the salt.
step 3
Now is the time to add the rice to the water, then raise the heat and wait for it to boil. Then cover the pan and cook everything over low heat for about 20 minutes (but depending on the power of your stove, the water can dry out in 15 minutes, so keep an eye out).
step 4
After the rice has absorbed most of the water, turn off the heat and do not remove the lid from the pot, let it rest for another 10 minutes so that the rest of the water evaporates. Once the water has completely evaporated, your loose brown rice is ready. Very easy, right?
Now that you already know how to make loose brown rice, step outside the conventional and try different versions of the grain. With some ingredients you already have at home you can create fantastic recipes and make your meals even healthier and full of flavour!
