Carnival is coming and it brings with it the revelry moodto the costumesYou roadblocks. All of these elements create the perfect time for lots of make out. After two years of isolation, without partying, the tendency is to “catch up”, right?

But yellow mark in that layout. After all, kissing so many strange mouths is directly related to the risk of contracting or even transmitting diseases through saliva. An example of this is mononucleosis, also known as “kissing disease,” caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

According to biophysician Roberto Martins Figueiredo, the Doctor Bacteriumthe best way to take precautions is not to overindulge.

“The ideal is to have a single partner, not go kissing left and right. Each person transmits eight million bacteria per second of kisses. A French kiss lasts about ten seconds. There are eighty million bacteria exchanged,” compares the doctor.

If, even so, your goal is to go out and kiss, then it’s worth paying attention to the suitor: if he has bad breath, if his teeth are clean, and if he has sores on his lips.

“But not all diseases show signs. In any case, maintain good hydration, nutrition and regular sleep to keep immunity high,” he adds.

It’s also important to keep your vaccination record up-to-date, according to Dr. Bacterium.

  • Here are the most common diseases transmitted by kisses:

• Mononucleosis: the famous “kissing disease” is caused by the virus Epstein-Barr, which is located in the amygdala region. The main symptoms can be mistaken for any virus, as they include high fever, sore throat, headache, body aches and even swelling in the neck.

• Cold sores: herpes simplex, another disease that can be spread by kissing, can have visible symptoms. In this case, check if your partner has lesions on the lips, such as small blisters. In this way it is easier to avoid contagion. Leave that kiss for another day!

But it is important to remember that even without apparent lesions, the carrier of the virus can transmit it during kisses. If you get infected and painful blisters appear on your lips, the treatment for sores is quite simple: ointment or pill prescribed by a doctor after a visual evaluation.

‘Thrush’ or candidiasis: “thrush” is caused by the fungus candida albicans and causes white lesions on the tongue, inside of the cheeks or lips. Treatment is usually done with antifungal drugs.

• Covid-19 and flu: we cannot forget Sars-Cov-2, the covid-19 virus, colds and flu in general. All highly transmissible with saliva, hence the mandatory use of the mask and social distancing in the last years of the pandemic. The spree may have been released, but don’t leave the precaution at home. Make sure your boyfriend coughs or sneezes before you kiss him.
