ohSPOILERS from ‘You’ season 4, below!
Joe Goldberg is back. Yes, the obsessive protagonist of ‘You’ has once again landed on Netflix and, with it, his new adventures. This time, in London.
The fourth season of ‘You’ has already released its first part on Netflix and, in case any of its plots have been overlooked, we have decided to explain the different mysteries that this half of the season has hidden. However, we still don’t know how the matter will end… Joe’s adventures are always changing and five chapters go a long way, surely Part II will hide many more secrets that must be solved.
What has happened in this start of the batch? What links are maintained from the previous episodes? Is Joe still obsessed with Marianne? All these questions and more, about one of the most anticipated series of 2023, will be answered immediately!
‘You 4’. Part I: The ending, explained
Following his epic escape at the end of Season 3, Joe decides to take a “little” trip to Europe, where he will begin his new life. His stay in the US has left numerous lifeless bodies in his wake, perhaps a new continent will take him away from his murderous instinct.
In this season we discover that Joe has adopted a new identity, Jonathan, a professor of literature at a London University.. So much experience with books in the previous batches had to bear fruit… In this context, he meets Malcolm, another professor at the institution, who is related to various members of British high society.
Soon, Malcolm will welcome you into his select group. Everything seems to be in order until, at the end of the first episode, Malcolm is found dead in Joe’s dining room.after a party at his private club. Has Joe killed you affected by the alcohol and drugs you consumed the night before?
Doubt leads him to quickly dispose of the body. However, when the police begin to investigate the disappearance, a series of mysterious messages (through an app that deletes them once they have been read) start coming to your phone. The killer appears to be someone else, and from what he says, Joe has become her new obsession.
Has the hunter been hunted? In this season, the roles are exchanged and Joe will have to find out who the criminal is.before it affects him and his new interest, Kate, Malcolm’s partner, who lives in the building across the street.
‘You 4. Part I’: Who is behind the mysterious messages?
Throughout the first few chapters, Joe begins an investigation to get one of Malcolm’s group members to confess to the crime.. However, it will not be an easy task. The assassin is smart and begins to eliminate other members of the elite. The race becomes more time trial than ever.
The ‘Matarricos’ could be any of them. They all show a deep contempt for Malcolm and a frivolity and despotism (which in the case of some borders on sociopathy) without limits.
After having met and investigated them, Joe attends an exclusive meeting that the group is holding at Phoebe’s old castle, one of them. An isolated weekend will be the perfect opportunity to capture the person responsible.
However, things get complicated when a new body appears lifeless. In the middle of the night, sophieone of Malcolm’s most impertinent and racist friends, found murdered in Kate’s room. Is she the killer? Is she the person who has been harassing Joe?
No. Same as in the case of Joe with Malcolm, Kate was in the wrong place at the wrong time.. So, with Phoebe’s help, they’ll try to get rid of the body. This is how another of the main suspects appears: Roald, Kate’s eternal lover, who accuses Joe of the murders out of jealousy.
Guided by his sadism, he tries to kill Joe, but they both fall into the trap of the real person responsible for all the crimes. It is about the friend who has gone more unnoticed throughout all the events. The “black sheep” of the group. The one who has never been part of the elite and who got there by chance: Rhys.
This is how the cake is uncovered: Rhys, greedy and with a desire to become the new mayor of London, has been murdering his “friends” out of rage that his privileged position caused him.. In a coldly calculated strategy, he will take advantage of this focus of attention, by the media, to present his candidacy and win votes.
Why was she obsessed with Joe? Meeting him at the party, and knowing he was a “nobody”, she tried to hold him responsible for Malcolm’s murder. However, Seeing the ease with which Joe disposed of the corpse, he began to investigate him and discovered his past.. Now, she could blackmail him to achieve his objectives.
‘You 4. Part I’: What about Kate and Joe?
As we’ve noted before, the season isn’t over yet. ANDWe hope that this relationship will develop much more in the following episodes. From what we know so far, this stormy bond seems to have “come to an end”.
After many tries, Kate seems to have accepted Joe into her life. However, the former assassin (now turned researcher amateur) He tries to take responsibility for his past and decides to end his contact. Joe is finally learning from his mistakes: romantic relationships are not his thing.
Anyway, We can expect this to turn in another direction in the following chapters, in ‘You’ nothing is final, not even death… (yes, we’re talking about you, Candace).
‘You 4. Part I’: Who is Joe’s new ally?
As in previous seasons, Joe usually has a trusted ally (not in his crimes, but in life).. A “friend” who gives you ideas (often unknowingly) to solve your critical situations.
In this case, this role will be played by one of his most outstanding students, Nadia (Amy-Leigh Hickman). The young student will give him little clues to solve the mystery of ‘Matarricos’, as if it were an Agatha Christie novel.
We can expect this duo to continue into the second half of the season and together solve more than one puzzle that is just around the corner. Will Nadia be a mainstay in publicly exposing Rhys for his crimes? Soon we will know…
‘You 4. Part I’: What about Marianne?
After all, what happened to Marianne? PFor those who don’t remember her, she is Joe’s love interest at the end of the third season of the series.. At the beginning of his trip to Europe, he intended to find her and start a life together.
After looking for her through the streets of Paris, he finds her in London, thanks to an Art Fair. However, despite Goldberg’s expectations, Marianne reacts with fear and rejection when she sees him. (nothing surprising knowing the history of our protagonist…).
Knowing that he is alive, the young woman connects the dots and deduces that he is the murderer of Love and her ex-husband. Joe accepts his will and they don’t see each other again.
We do not know if this character will return in the second part of the season. It would be possible since she is the only one who knows Joe’s real identity, other than Rhys. Will these characters unite to take down Joe? (It would be weird since there is no connection between them, but you never know…)
All seasons of ‘You’ are available on streaming on Netflix. Part II of season 4 premieres on the platform on March 9.
