Here we are on February 27, 1967. Director Pierre Czernia signs a TV movie called Two Roma in a Cage adapted from the universe of Asterix. The authors of Little Gal comics, René Goskin and Albert Uderzo, signed the script, the peculiarity of which is that it is a mixture of real and animated images.
Therefore, Asterix and Obelix appear there in the animation with the same appearance as in the film Asterix the Gaul, which was supposed to be released in December of the same year. The voices of these two heroes are provided by Roger Carell and Jacques Morel.
The plot of Chernya’s film is an excuse. A little boy is learning a history lesson about a cage today. He is then transported to the world of Asterix.
Two Romans, Ticketdebus (Roger Pierre) and Prospectus (Jean-Marc Thibault) roam the cage and meet a variety of colorful characters, leading to a sequence of sketches and even a medley of songs.
You can meet Pierre Mondi as an innkeeper, Maurice Birot as a tank salesman, Jean Yan as a centurion, Pierre Duck as a novelist, Roger Couderc as a sportscaster, or Pierre Tornad as Gaul (and who will later voice him. Obelix ). As for the two Goluzas who interact with the two Romans, they are played by Vivian Cipher and Anne Sandy.
The creators of Asterix, in addition to signing the script, appear in the TV movie: Goskin plays a waiter in the “Café de flora” and Uderzo a street designer who signs a brilliant Asterix in chalk, which then comes to life.
Let’s just say Deux Romains en Gaule carries the weight of years on its shoulders, and we’re closer to a filmed variety theater show than a film, even in sketches. However, it should be rediscovered for Asterix fans who will see a real piece of history there, filmed in just under three weeks!
