Jenna Ortega narrates how the dramatic filming of Wednesday was, the Netflix series directed by Tim Burton

Hours of studying the cello, physical suffering, crying calls to her father at odd hours… This is how Jenna Ortega, the actress of ‘Wednesday’, recalls the filming of the Tim Burton series for Netflix.

After her roles in ‘The Fallout’, ‘Jane The Virgin’, You’ or ‘Scream’, Jenna Ortega, The American actress born in 2002 in the Coachella Valley, received what is so far the character of her life: the protagonist of ‘Wednesday’, the first series that Tim Burton shot for Netflix.

To live up to his character, Ortega he had to learn many things, from fencing to German, through canoeing and cello. But his shooting schedule and work to prepare all those qualities of Wednesday It was a real hell as explained in a Netflix Q&A held yesterday, Monday, February 13.

“I showed up on the set two hours before, I worked 12-14 hour days, came home, plugged into Zoom, and taught whatever class I had. Or I’d get to my apartment and my cello teacher was already waiting for me,” says Ortega. “It was going constantly, and if you could one weekend (if we weren’t shooting on the sixth day of that week), it was: ‘Very good, Well then, we’ll give you the classes then'”.

The statements have been collected by ‘Variety’ and point out that the fencing and cello classes began a couple of months before the shooting, but they continued in Romania, during the eight months that the filming of ‘Wednesday’ lasted. Apparently, the cello sequence of ‘Paint It Black’ was especially difficult, since he changed teachers when he arrived abroad and had to play a score arranged for two with only one instrument.

“I didn’t sleep at all. I pulled my hair out,” says Ortega. “There are so many FaceTime calls my dad answered where I was crying hysterically…” Ortega narrates that she put pressure on herself to do a good job on the cello, despite the fact that Burton reassured her: “Oh, don’t worry, you’re going to do great. It’s going to be great,” said the filmmaker.

“I didn’t even know where my hands were supposed to go and then I had to get two cellos out of one cello, which was ridiculous,” Ortega said. “We started to run out of time because Wednesday appears in almost every scene,” explains Ortega. “They had to start using stunt doubles or occasionally cello doubles if they didn’t have time to get hands on, but I insisted on being the best prepared possible because I wanted them to be able to use myself, because it’s much more believable if you can see your face.”

Wednesday has been a huge success for Netflix. It was released on November 23 and broke the platform record for number of hours viewed in the first week with more than 341 million (The previous hit had been marked by ‘Stranger Things 4’, with 335 million). On January 6 it was announced that there would be a second season of the series.

Jenna Ortega explained to Variety that she has no idea what can happen in the new chapters or when she will start filming, but she did make it clear what she would like to see. The 21-year-old actress said that I would prefer it to focus less on love trianglesthat “it was something strange to justify”, and instead “focus only on her and her experiences.”
