Beware of spoilers for Action Comics #1051!
Before we talk about exactly what Clark Kent is doing now, it is only necessary to recall a little what he thought about “solving” humanity’s problems. for Superman, solving the problems that we ourselves have created would be like becoming addicted to him; and it would also be as if he didn’t have faith in the ability to push his limits – and, with that, learn from mistakes and evolve.
But Superman’s new phase, which brings a Kal-El more powerful than ever, comes with a new plan, shown in the recently released Action Comics #1051, by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Rafa Sandoval. Returning to Earth after an absence from Battleworld and with the Dark Crisis saga in Infinite Earths, the Man of Steel worked alongside inventors and superheroes John Henry Irons and Natasha Irons.
With this initiative, they are opening a scientific innovation center called Steelworks Tower, which will have Superman’s help in projects to improve the world and solve humanity’s problems. In this way, Kal-El tries to show people that everyone has always had the possibility to improve and solve their problems, without limiting the efforts or abilities of the earthlings – that is why he chose John and Natasha Irons, two humans, to lead the Steelworks Tower.
Criticism of Superman’s lack of “proactivity” in human causes has been on the lips of Batman and his villains, as well as his son, Jon Kent, in recent years. And, with a greater plan in mind, Kal-El, in his new phase has decided that it is necessary to be more than the protector of Metropolis: it is necessary to be the great defender of the Earth.
