Paul Mescal was “ready to go dark places” for the tragic drama God’s Creatures – Exclusive Image

Over the past couple of years, Paul Mescal has become one of the most exciting film actors around. Since his arrival in normal peoplein turn the lost girland in his incredible Oscar-nominated role in after the sunhe left a major mark and will soon be seen in a much darker guise in a new drama. the creatures of godwith Emily Watson.

The film, directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, could be set in a small Irish fishing village, but as Holmer recounts Empire – tonally a “mythic Greek tragedy”, in which Brian de Mescal returns home after spending time in Australia and becomes the prime suspect in a sexual assault case. “I was very willing to go to those dark places to explore the psychology of the character,” Holmer says in the new issue, and for Mescal, who is able to delve into his characters, there was a lot to explore. “We built this backstory for Brian that involved the abuse he experienced in and around the house,” he says. The result is a particularly physical performance from Mescal, channeling Brian’s experiences into frenetic action. “It’s like a tremor or tension that you hold in your body that could be released at any moment.”

Alongside Saoirse Ronan in a sci-fi thriller Enemya place in the cast of Andrew Haigh’s new film strangersand a long-term commitment to Richard Linklater merrily we ride adaptation (to be filmed in the next 20 years or so), not forgetting that of Ridley Scott Gladiator continuation.
