Parents of students on TF1: what the director set to make children’s games authentic

The comedy Parents of Students, broadcast this Monday night on TF1, tells the story of Vincent (Vincent Dedien), a childless thirty-year-old who infiltrates a tribe with a secret code and language: parents of students. Attending parent-teacher conferences, school outings and end-of-year fairs is quite an achievement, but Vincent has a very good reason for being there and feels good in this community. A little special…

The feature film “Parents of Students” released in 2020 in theaters focuses on the daily life of parents, but the latter would be nothing on the screen without students. In order to make the performance of the young actors who portray them believable, the director Noemi Saglio, who had already directed children in his short films, used a rather special method.

For the parents of the students, to whom we are also in charge of the Connasse and Plan Coeur series, the children were given improvisations in the presence of their parents, based on everyday life situations, observing their movements and the ease of exercise. At his side to help him is casting director Adelaide Mauvern.

“I spent a lot of time with the little guy who plays Bart (Oscar Paulo, Editor’s Note). On the set, we took small moments with two cameras.– says Noemi Saglio. “Amore, the coach, has really helped me get the best out of each kid. This woman has been an invaluable help in helping them find the right balance in their game.”

And Noémie Saglio concludes: “I really trusted the coach, especially since there were twenty children and twenty adults on this shoot, and we were shooting in the heat of July 2019!” We worked with each child on the way of walking and their problems. characters.”
