‘Mamma Mia!’: Amanda Seyfried reveals who she wanted Sophie’s father to be

Sam, Harry or Bill?

One of the most important roles in Amanda Seyfried’s career is that of Sophie in the two ‘Mamma Mia!’ films, the daughter of Donna, the protagonist.

The first film, released in 2008 and based on the stage musical of the same name, it presented a story of entanglements spinning the music of the ABBA group. In the plot it is told the story of Sophie (Seyfried), a young woman who invites to her wedding three men who once had an affair with her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep): Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Harry (Colin Firth) and Bill (Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd). ) attend, and little by little they realize that they have been invited because each of them could be Sophie’s father.

The actress, who played Sophie in two Mamma Mia! movies, revealed in an interview to Vanity Fair that she has her own personal choice of who she expects her to actually be Sophie’s father (Donna’s love for Sam notwithstanding).

For Seyfried it was the first time he had played a major leading role in a film. His preference for Sophie’s father is not due to favoritism towards any of the three actors, but rather the lingering impact of an acting choice that occurs in the middle of the song ‘Voulez-Vous’.the moment in which each of the men finally realizes what is happening.

Everyone has their own idea, but in Seyfried’s mind, Bill has the best lighting. “It’s one of the purest moments in the movie because there’s a lot of pride in Stellan, but also a lot of shock and fear,” Seyfried explained. “Just full acceptance in a small amount of time. It’s a full circle moment. It’s nice. Comedically he’s also very skilled, and because of this moment, I always secretly hoped that Stellan was really his father. Sorry, Bill.

He also finds a bit of poetic justice in being Bill because of his own narrative. “I was the person who seemed least likely to want children“, he said. “From the realization to the acceptance, there is a scene that was cut from a song called ‘Name of the game,’ and we sing it together, and I beg him, ‘What is the name of the game?’ We had lots of fun. It brought us very close.” Still, there is no paternity reveal that is official. Instead at the end of the story the three potential parents decide to share their love for Sophie and they all treat her as their own.

While it may be easy for Seyfried to pick his choice for Sophie’s father, filming the number where it all happens was the complete opposite, as he recalls, “You’re having this crazy, insane, torturous fight with this young lady and with her mother and everyone. these men saying, ‘I’m your father,'” he recounted. “It’s a great move to have him during this crazy ‘Voulez-vous’ dance. It was a struggle for me. There was too much choreography in and out. It’s dizzying. Poor Sophie.”

Apart from revealing the identity of the young woman’s father, there is another question that fans of ‘Mamma Mia!’ are made: Will there be a third movie? Many cast members have said they would be open to returning to the world of ABBA and Greece, and Seyfried hasn’t abandoned his musical inclinations. She actually is currently working on a musical interpretation of ‘Thelma and Louise’. But at the moment there is nothing official.
