Melissa Barrera, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega starred in January’s horror hit. cryingSpyglass Media and Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday.
The film, released in January, the fifth film in the slasher franchise created by Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven, was a named remake of their first film. It introduced a new generation of teenagers who teamed up with the original characters, played by Nevi Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, to fight a killer dubbed Ghostface.
The creative team behind the reboot was already gearing up for filming this summer. James Vanderbilt and Guy Buzick returned to write the script, while Matt Bettinell-Alpin and Tyler Gillett, from a filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, returned as directors.
Story details are being kept under wraps, but the companies said the new feature “continues with Ghostface killing four survivors as they leave Woodsboro and begin a new chapter.”
Filming will take place this summer on March 31, 2023 in theaters.
Project X Entertainment Vanderbilt producers Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Williamson and a third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villa, are executive producers along with Gary Barber and Peter O’Leary of Spyglass, Ron Lynch, Katie Conrad and Marianne Madalena.
