Almost twenty years after the Lindsay Lohan movie, another version is back!
The new musical version of ‘Mean Girls’ continues to bring news. According to Deadline, the film is increasing its cast. Now The latest to join is Jenna Fischer, the actress we met on ‘The Office’. Fischer will play Mrs. Heron, the mother of protagonist Cadywho will be played by Angourie Rice in this new version.
Throughout her career, Fischer has been a part of her fair share of comedies that mark her as the perfect choice for a movie like the Mean Girls remake. However, her name is mostly synonymous with the beloved NBC employment sitcom, in which she played Pam. The series ran for a total of nine seasons, airing its final episode in 2013. However, Fischer has carried on the show’s legacy, in large part with her co-star and best friend Angela Kinsey. The duo launched their ‘Office Ladies’ podcast in 2019, which releases new episodes every Wednesday. They also co-wrote a book titled The Office BFFs, delving into their time on the show and how it affected their lives.
The musical film will mark the third version of the story. In fact, this title is an adaptation of the Broadway musical. Said show was adapted into a film in 2004, which was adapted from the novel ‘Queen Bees and Wannabes’ by Rosalind Wiseman. The new film is adapted by the actress who also appeared in the 2004 film, Tina Fey. She is also a producer with Lorne Michaels, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Samantha Jayne and Arturo Pérez Jr. are in charge of directing.
Who participates in the new ‘Mean Girls’?
Like its previous predecessors, the musical film ‘Mean Girls’ (original title) will focus on Cady Heron (which in 2004 was played by Lindsay Lohan), role played by Angourie Riceseen in the ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ saga or the HBO series ‘Mare of Easttown’.
Cady is a high school student starting at a new school after her family returns to the United States. Unaccustomed to high school social life, Cady finds herself a little out of place as she tries to re-acclimate to life change. So she befriends two other students, Janis (played by Auli’i Cravalho, currently played by Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey, originally played by Daniel Franzese). After Cady falls for a boy named Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney, formerly played by Jonathan Bennett), she leads her to get involved with the most popular girl group in school, called “The Plastics”.
The upcoming film will see the return of Fey and Tim Meadows as Mrs. Norbury and Principal Duval, respectively.. The Las Plásticas cast includes Avantika Vandanapu as Karen, Bebe Wood as Gretchen, and Reneé Rapp as Regina (who also played the character in the Broadway musical). We met this group in the emblematic film played by actresses Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert and Rachel McAdams respectively.
