Tonight on TV: You’ll love to hate Benoit Poelvoorde

In 1996, director Philip Harrell approached Benoit Poelvoorde to star in his film Randonneurs. It offers him the role of Eric, a mountain guide who welcomes four Parisians to the magnificent paths of the GR 20 in Corsica.

During this period, the Belgian actor was not very active in films (even if his performance in C’est arrive près de chez vous impressed in 1992) and played on stage in his show “Model Opposite” (which the director likes a lot).

Grateful for his chosen one, he is also worried about the idea of rubbing shoulders with a team game for the first time. During filming, the actor also struggles to play more soberly than in the theater and cope with the director’s type of humor.

Despite these difficulties (which did not affect his relationship with Philip Harrell or the rest of the cast), Benoit Poelvorde stands out as a proud, authoritarian and cowardly boy. Alongside a generation of actresses who were still in their infancy – Karin Viard, Vincent Elbaz, Geraldine Pailas… – her performance is memorable and exposes her to the wider public.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival, Les Randonneurs captivated the public and drew 1.4 million French people to cinemas.
