The second most expensive series in history has a trailer and it’s 2 minutes of pure adrenaline

This is an ambitious project, the first images of which we wanted to discover. Because The Citadel isn’t just a simple spy series, it’s the second-highest-grossing production on Prime Video behind The Rings of Power at $465 million. Suffice it to say that the platform is betting big on this blockbuster produced by the Russo Brothers (The Avengers), whose synopsis here is classic yet catchy:

Eight years ago, the citadel fell. An international, independent spy agency—charged with everyone’s safety and security—has been brought down by agents of Manticore, a powerful syndicate pulling the strings from behind the scenes. After the fall of the Citadel, elite agents Mason Kane and Nadia Singh had their memories erased as they briefly escaped.

From then on, they lived under new identities, ignoring their past. Until one night, when Mason is found by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick, who desperately needs his help to stop the Manticore from establishing a New World Order. Mason reunites with his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world to stop Manticore’s actions.

The trailer just opened and it’s 2 minutes of pure adrenaline that Prime Video has to offer, between train explosions, fights, camera effects and other slow motion. A result that rushes us and makes us want to binge watch the series on April 28.

In the main roles we meet two regulars of the genre: Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico). They are surrounded by celebrities such as Leslie Manville and Stanley Tucci, who plays the spy Jerry.

An ambitious project

Citadel lurks behind Prime Video’s ambitious project: launching a franchise with spin-offs focused on different characters. It remains to be seen if the first season will be a hit.

It must be said that the backstage squabbles did not give it good press: especially between the Russo brothers (only producers) and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum / Andre Nemec, who did not share the same vision. A disagreement that forced the director and producer to abandon the ongoing project and forced the actors to start shooting again under the direction of Thomas Siegel, a cinematographer who had already worked with the Russo brothers.
