“The Internet is unforgiving.”
Joseph Quinn (‘Stranger Things’), did not mince words when talking about the cruel online comments that one of his co-stars was subjected to.
Grace Van Dienwho played cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham in the fourth season of the Netflix series, was the center of multiple abuses on-line for playing the love interest of Quinn’s character, Eddie Munson. (In fairness, the couple didn’t get very far because of Vecna, but their budding romance held promise.)
“It is awfulQuinn said during a fan Q&A session at the london comic con on Saturday March 4.
The actor also explained that he and Van Dien had discussed the reactions. on-line.
“I was talking to her about it“, he commented, adding: “internet is relentless“.
“It is a place where people can show you a lot of support, or where they can feed on hate and misinformation“.
“It is indicative of where we are culturally. Just by association he lashed out at her. It’s disgusting. I don’t know what to say, it’s bullshit“.
The next time we see Quinn it will be in ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’, the spin off prequel to John Krasinski’s post-apocalyptic saga. Scheduled to premiere next year, ‘Day One’ also stars Lupita Nyong’o (‘Black Panther’) and Alex Wolff (‘Hereditary’).
As for a possible return as Eddie Munson, it sadly looks like Quinn’s departure from the series is final.. (spoilers of the fourth season of ‘Stranger Things’ later).
After quickly establishing himself as a fan favorite, the ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ master, Eddie, becomes a hero, but ends up being mutilated by some evil bats in ‘The Other Side’ — though not before showing off their chops, with an iconic rendition of Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets.’ (Yes, it all happened in the end).
And while his return doesn’t seem to be on the cards according to executive producer Shawn Levy, the fans have not lost hope that Eddie will somehow show up in season 5. Dreaming is free, right?
All seasons of ‘Stranger Things’ are available on Netflix.
