‘Game of Thrones’ destroyed ‘Joffrey’s’ passion for acting
In a speech at University College Dublin in February 2023, the Irish actor talked about his feelings while working on “Game of Thrones” and leading up to season 4 where Joffrey Baratheon dies in the series.
Jack Gleeson said his decision to stop acting after the epic HBO series and focus on his studies was because he lost his passion for acting and working in front of the cameras wasn’t as much fun anymore.
Gleeson, who made his screen debut opposite Gerard Butler in 2002’s ‘Reign of Fire’, revealed that after fulfilling his dream of becoming an actor, the work got tiring when he came to ‘Game of Thrones’ at the age 19 years old.
Regarding his loss of enthusiasm, he clarified that it was not because of his role as a villain, but because he began to see acting as a profession and not so much as entertainment.

Ever since he left ‘Game of Thrones’, Jack Gleeson has been away from the industry and today, at 30, he even revealed that he hasn’t seen the HBO series, not even the episodes in which he appears.
In a question-and-answer session at a “Game of Thrones” convention in Los Angeles in December 2022, the “Batman Begins” actor said he has no opinion on the series and its finale because he hasn’t seen it.
Jack Gleeson has only starred in a few projects since 2014 (“Out of her Mind” and Rebecca’s Boyfriend”), although the drama “In the Land of Saints and Sinners” is on the way, where he shares credits with Liam Neeson .
