Jenna Ortega complains about Wandinha’s script: ‘I had to change the line’

Jenna Ortega has gained a lot of fame for her role in Wandinhathe great Netflix hit of 2022. But all the success of the series does not mean that everything went smoothly during the productions, with the actress weaving hard complaints, mainly related to the script.

In an interview with the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, the actress had a lengthy conversation on a variety of topics, including Wandinha, and how unhappy she was with how the series was written. During the podcast, she talks about how she was never happy with any scene she shot on the show and never saw the finished production.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to step foot on set the way I have Wandinha because it is very easy to fall into the category [adolescente]especially with this type of series,” Ortega said during the podcast interview. “Everything he does, everything I had to play, made no sense to his character. His being in a love triangle made no sense.

The actress said there were times when she just started changing lines in her character, leading her to believe she was being unprofessional while filming.

There was a line about this dress she had to wear to a school dance and she was like, “Oh my god, I love it!” Ugh, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ And I had to say, ‘No, not at all.’ There were moments on that set where I got almost unprofessional in a way, I just started to switch lines.

He went on to explain that while the script supervisor believed there was a way forward, he should have met with the writers. “They were like, ‘Wait, what happened to the scene?’ And I would have to go through and explain why I couldn’t do certain things. I became very, very protective of her,” the actress said, referring to her character Wandinha Addams.

Despite refusing to do and say certain things because they don’t fit the character, Jenna Ortega agreed that an emotional arc is necessary for a main character. “You can’t be the protagonist of a story and not have an emotional arc, because then it’s boring and nobody likes it.”

As is often the case with podcasts, the section where he makes these comments Wandinha went viral on the web from a clip posted on Twitter, which already has 8.6 million views.
