Marcelo arrives in Brazil to introduce himself to Fluminense 17 years after his departure

He has arrived. Marcelo left back he returned to Brazil to be a Fluminense player once again in his career. The 34-year-old landed at Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport at around 11am with his family and was greeted by fans.




Elated by the victory of the Guanabara Cup over rival Flamengo, last Wednesday the tricolors went to honor the return of the 34-year-old full-back. Created by Xerém, Marcelo trained in the youth academy of Fluminense and returns to the team that has proven itself after 17 years in European football. In the Old Continent the athlete played for Real Madrid, from Spain, and for Olympiacos, from Greece.

The number 12 shirt will be presented this Friday at the Maracanã. In an event featuring singer Filipe Ret, Marcelo will take to the stadium’s lawn to then hold a press conference. Around 30,000 tickets have already been sold and are expected to be sold out.

Marcelo arrived in Rio de Janeiro with his wife, actress Clarice Alves, their children, Enzo and Liam, and lots of bags. Routine, however, will come and go for one side of the family. The player’s eldest son Enzo plays for Real Madrid’s youth team and will remain with the Meringue club.


It is not yet defined when Marcelo’s debut with the tricolor shirt will take place. To play again in the Carioca Championship, Fluminense will have to register him by this Thursday (9), the deadline for the regularization of new athletes. In case he doesn’t happen in the state, the fullback should make his first game in this second pass in the debut of the Libertadores, between April 4, 5 and 6- Conmebol will still define the opponent and the date.

Marcelo was revealed by Fluminense in 2005 and left Laranjeiras’ team for Real Madrid the following year. In all, the forward made 40 appearances in his first spell, with six goals and three assists. The Merengues paid 9 million euros (almost R$25 million at the time) for the player.
