How to send a message on Instagram
- Open Instagram and tap the speech bubble icon at the top left of the screen. When there are message notifications, you can see a number next to it;
- Then the social network displays the list of all messages, from newest to oldest. In the “+” icon you can create new conversations and groups;
- Open a chat to see the content and send messages, photos, videos or audio;
- To reply to a specific message, swipe the text to the right or hold your finger to open a list of information;
- To share a post from Instagram itself, tap the arrow icon and choose a contact from the list.
From the computer, the experience is similar. Just log into Instagram, sign in with your account and look for the “Messages” tab in the left corner of the screen.
What is the difference between the app version and the browser version?
From the computer it is possible to access all the basic functions of the Instagram DM, such as creating chats, replying to messages and making calls. The interface is similar to that of a mobile phone and can be the solution for those who prefer to use the PC keyboard.
The mobile version of the app, on the other hand, reserves some features that have not yet reached the browser: it is possible to send voice messages, customize the topic of the conversation and start the temporary mode, with messages that self-destruct after a period.
How Instagram groups work
The platform also allows you to chat as a group. In this case, by selecting the “+” icon to generate a new chat, you just need to choose more than one contact and Instagram will automatically create the group. You can also create an invite link and limit the approval of new people in the chat.

Instagram accepts the following content:

- Instagram profiles;
- Still images (with and without single view);
- Video (with and without single view);
- GIFs;

Compared to other messengers, you cannot send ready-made locations or audio files.
Can I send messages to any profile on Instagram?
It depends on the privacy settings of each account. By default, any contact made from a profile that doesn’t follow you is sent as a message request.
