Federal Deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) said there was no “transphobia” during his speech to the Chamber of Deputies. On Twitter, the MP said that his intervention was motivated by the fact “of not having a man in the women’s room”. The justification, however, has been the subject of criticism, as the deputy has once again used a transphobic demonstration to defend himself.

After the speech, MP Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) said she will file a motion to impeach the MP for transphobic speech.
“We are talking about a man, who, on International Women’s Day, took our time to speak to deliver prejudiced, criminal, absurd and disgusting speech. Transphobia goes beyond the freedom of speech which is guaranteed by parliamentary immunity Transphobia is a crime in Brazil,” he said. Nikolas retorted: “There’s no need to talk anymore. Now it’s all impeachment.”
