How do plungers work in condominiums

The demand for the service has increased during the pandemic and the topic needs to be discussed proactively

The social isolation required during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic has changed consumption habits and ways of living together. In houses such as apartment buildings and condominiums it was possible to observe a greater generation of waste and also of sewage residues. What was normally distributed in different places is now concentrated in one place.

This has generated greater attention to maintaining cleanliness, especially of the plumbing systems. Clogged toilets and sewers, cleaning the siphon or even small leaks are some of the things that require regular maintenance.

In this scenario, one of the services that has grown the most during the pandemic has been the plunger and professional cleaning. Second Abralimp (Brazilian Association of the Professional Cleaning Market)), the sector has remained heated in recent years and is one of the most important segments of our economy, concentrating two-thirds of GDP and a growth of 1.3% in 2022. And the drain cleaning market expects annual growth between 1% and 6%.

Assumption and prevention

Sewer maintenance is increasingly essential. However, by hiring the service of a company piston for condominiums it is not always an easy task. “There are some bureaucracies. The decision usually has to be approved by a group of people, which ends up making the process long and problematic. There are cases of condominiums whose pipes remain blocked for days because the residents do not agree”, says Gleison Pinheiro, director of DESENTUPIDORA PROFISSIONAL, a provider of sewage cleaning services in São Paulo.

The ideal scenario, according to Pinheiro, is for the issue of clogging to be discussed in advance in condominium meetings, before the problem occurs, to avoid it taking too long to remedy it. “As the number of buildings and coexistence in the community is growing, it is essential that the administrators of these projects always have a partner and a serious company to carry out the unblocking and fumigation services,” he explains.

service evolution

With growing demand and a market with active competition, piston companies have invested in technology and innovation, improving the machines and training their employees.

“Today we see professionals with more knowledge to carry out unblocking services in general, machines with powerful water jets, such as hydro sandblasting, which remove solid materials quickly and without damaging pipes, among other innovations,” explains Pinheiro.

In addition to preventive maintenance, the administrator believes that contracts for this type of service should be negotiated with longer terms, so residents are safer and the condominium can save money with more affordable values.
