The 2023 edition of the world’s top film awards, the Oscars, takes place this Sunday, March 12, bringing Jimmy Kimmel back to the stage to host the ceremony for the third time.
Kimmel takes over as host of the 2023 Oscars after holding the role at the 2017 and 2018 editions. Last year, the ceremony was hosted by the trio of Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes, who took over the role after three years consecutive Oscars without a host.

While he is hugely popular with American audiences, hosting ABC’s hit daily show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he is less well known with Brazilian audiences. So, many may be wondering: who is Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the 2023 Oscars?
Jimmy Kimmel is a host, producer and comedian, best known – as previously mentioned – for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late night talk show style show. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Las Vegas, he started his career early. Inspired by his idol, David Letterman, he hosted a talk show on a college radio station while still in high school.

In addition to talking about the comeback itself, he also commented on the famous Oscar slap, when Will Smith rose from his seat on stage to attack Chris Rock, who pranked Smith’s wife when presenting an award to the Oscars 2022.

You mean if someone comes on stage and hits me? Well, I measure the person, and if I’m older than them, I spank them on television. And if it’s the [Chris] Rock, I run.
