Tonight on TV: If you enjoyed The Hunger Games, a new movie is coming to theaters this year!

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2 Eight years after the release of the final episode, the dystopian saga adapted from the Susan Collins novels rises from the ashes to the big screen with the upcoming release of The Ballad of the Snake and the Bird singer. Released in 2020, this prequel to The Adventures of Katniss focuses on the youth of the tyrannical President Snow (played by Donald Sutherland in the original saga).

Very quickly it was announced that this book would in turn be turned into a feature film with Francis Lawrence behind the camera. The filmmaker has already signed on to adapt the last three Hunger Games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence.

Scheduled to hit our theaters on November 15, 2023, the feature film takes place 64 years before the adventures of Katniss, Peeta and Gale.

Young 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope of his line, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in the post-war Capitol. With the tenth annual Hunger Games approaching, he is given the role of mentor to District 12’s tribute, Lucy Gray Baird.

After Lucy captures the attention of all of Panem by singing during the harvest ceremony, Coriolanus thinks he can access the Capitol’s papers and tip the scales in their favor. Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will reveal who is the songbird and who is the snake…

Tom Blythe and Rachel Zegler

In terms of casting, British comedian Tom Blyth, previously seen in the TV series Billy the Kid, slips into the shoes of young Coriolanus Snow, Rachel Zeigler, revealed by Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and the next Snow White from the Disney film. Live action brings her features to Lucy, and Hunter Shaffer (Julie in Euphoria) is Tiger Snow.

Multi-award-winning actress Viola Davis plays the cruel Dr. Volumnia Gaul, creator of the 10th Hunger Games, and Peter Dinklage, of Tyrion Lannister fame in Game of Thrones, plays Academy Dean Casca Highbottom. Finally, Jason Schwartzman is Lucretius Flickerman, the host of the games and the ancestor of Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci).

Last October, Rachel Zegler took us behind the scenes on the set of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.

We’ll discover sets, costumes, as well as appearances by Tom Blythe and tributes played by Laurel Marsden and Ashley Liao. If this new opus works, it could be the first part of a new trilogy.

Remember that in 4 feature films, the Hunger Games saga has grossed nearly $3 billion at the international box office, so it makes sense that Lionsgate is looking to reboot the saga.

Movies are currently available on Prime Video.
