With much of the public complaining that the MCU has stalled after its 31 films, eight series, and the demise of the original Avengers (with the deaths of several notable characters), Disney chairman Bob Iger, stated that he believes there is still a lot to explore in the Marvel Studios universe in the years to come.
In a presentation this Thursday (9), Iger recalled the vast number of Casa das Ideias characters that can be explored (more than seven thousand), as well as stating that “there are still many stories to tell”.
What we need to be aware of at Marvel is not necessarily the number of narratives, but how often we go back to the well of certain characters.. Sequels usually work well for us. We have to do a third or a quarter [filme], or is it time to look for other characters? There’s nothing inherently wrong with Marvel branding. I just think we need to pay attention to what characters or stories we’re exploring..
Bob Iger, in an interview with IndieWire
Future already defined
So far, we already know some steps of the MCU in the future. The “Avengers” franchise will have two more films (in which we should meet the new generation of these superheroes) in the next three years.
Another information is that the feature films “Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” will feature these new Avengers. “If you look at Marvel’s trajectory over the next five years, you’re going to see a lot of new things,” Iger pointed out.
“Kang Dynasty” will focus on the villain of the same name, who was introduced in the Disney+ series “Loki” and appeared in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”. The film hits the big screen on May 2, 2025. “Avengers: Secret Wars” is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
