It’s baffling when you think about it: Jennifer Lawrence has never had an all-out comedic role. Which is weird, because she’s always seemed like a funny person. For the most part, she ended up battling diets (The Hunger Games film), caught in traumatic whirlwinds (Mother!), or bring mutant chaos (of X-Men first generation Before). Also the role of him in the satirist Adam McKay do not look I had it in front of the end of the world. But this summer, he’s doing a full-on comedy for the first time No strong emotionsthe new R-rated laugh fest by good guys Director Gene Stupnitsky. Watch the trailer here:
As made clear in the trailer, the film’s (slightly bizarre) premise has Lawrence’s Maddie dealing with financial ruin and taking an unusual job: She’s hired by a wealthy couple to “date” their son Percy before he misses college. And by “date” they mean to help her lose her virginity. Clumsy Percy is played by newcomer Andrew Feldman (Gen Z viewers will recognize him from the TikTok masterpiece ratatouille the musical), and though he doesn’t notice Maddie’s advances, he soon sees the unique person he is, unrelated to his parents’ concern for him. And Lawrence gets a few laughs in this trailer alone, his supple face is comedy gold, so hopefully there’s a lot more where he’s coming from.
Elsewhere, the film stars Matthew Broderick (as Percy’s father), the bearby Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Natalie Morales, and Lawrence produces under his banner Excellent Cadaver in addition to starring. We’ll see if Stupnitsky lives up to the promise of a surprisingly smooth R-rated comedy. good guys When No strong emotions will hit theaters this summer.
