Paulista leaves landlord and favorite Henrique Avancini behind; Raiza Goulão wins in the women’s category

The International Giants Challenge kicked off this Friday, with the XCO Class 2 race at Villa Itaipava Resort & Conventions, in Petrópolis. . Raiza Goulão, from Goiás, confirmed her favoritism and won in the women’s category.




The tournament brought together dozens of cyclists from four of Brazil’s five regions, not forgetting foreigners and the passionate public. In class 2, Elite and Sub-23 athletes competed. The Class 1 races will take place on Sunday, with cyclists from other categories.

Among the men there were seven laps, each around 4km. Among the women, the course was the same, but in six laps. The competition earned points for qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Cocuzzi played a regular race, always in the leading group. In the last stretch of the race, however, he took off and completed the 28.70km in 1h18m11s76. Goulão finished in 1h22m41s04.

– I couldn’t warm up or start very well. She was always in the top ten, but without too much hope. But on the last lap I saw that I could finish first. (Henrique) Avancini overtook me, but then I overtook him too – analyzes Cocuzzi, who finished the 28.70 km of the men’s race at 22 km/h.

After Cocuzzi, Ulan Galinski and the favorite Henrique Avancini appeared, finishing in 1h18m19s50 and 1h18m29m87. Both are Caloi Henrique Avancini Racing athletes.

The race demanded a lot from the athletes. It started in intense heat and ended in light rain, although in the middle of the competition it was tight. The altitude reached 778 meters.

Among the women, Goiana from Pirenópolis opened with a big lead from the fourth round, when she left behind Karen Olimpio. The Audax Racing athlete finished the 24.60 km of the women’s race in 1h25m05s48. The podium was completed by Letícia Cândido, also from Minas Gerais, with 1h31m18s74.

– I tried to rate the test at the very beginning so as not to waste energy, at a comfortable pace. The rain made it even more exciting. It was a strategic test and I even managed to save myself for the next two days of competition – commented Raiza.
