‘You’ season 5: release date, plot, cast, trailer

Netflix never said that season 4 was the end, although there is still no confirmation of a fifth season, there are many loose ends to be resolved.

Netflix premiered season 4 of ‘You’ in two parts a month apart. The first showed us Joe Goldberg on a certainly redemptive path and had touches of a detective novel. The second, however, was a brutal script twist that changed our idea of our leading serial killer forever. It is supposed to be the last season, or so many viewers assumed, but the truth is that there is no official announcement. Now there are many viewers who wonder if there will be a sequel.

There is no confirmation that it will continue or that it has finished. The truth is that Netflix is lately famous for its cancellations, but also for the continuity of series that seem finished. There they follow ‘Elite’, ‘Cobra Kai’ and, perhaps, ‘You’. Although for now we will have to speculate, this is all we know and expect from season 5 of ‘You’.

‘You’, what are the chances of a fifth season?

As we say, there was a certain run run around the fourth season that this could be the end of ‘You’. We believe that everything will depend on the audience. If ‘You’ continues to prove to be one of the most popular series on Netflix, nothing should leave it without another season (at least). Although it is true that Joe’s story seemed designed to last less, and it is already going around too many times.

The showrunner of the series, Sera Gamble, has assured hollywood reporter that the series still has a future:

We have an idea for season five that we’re excited about. It was never anyone’s intention to continue just to continue. When we’re done, we’re done. And we will leave everything closed. Even in early discussions with Penn, the idea was not to produce episodes forever; it’s feeling like we’ve told the whole story. We’re not trying to sell Joe as some kind of hero. This is one that follows the tradition of those series of a single protagonist, a boy who does increasingly bad things. The beautiful thing about this is that when his arc is complete, so is the series.

The lead, Penn Badgley, told the podcast Happy Sad Confusedthat if there is another season, it will be the last:

I think if there is another season, I think it will only be one. I understand that, but I don’t know, I really don’t know. But I know that everyone involved, from top to bottom, nobody wants this series to tire. That’s when Joe is most disgusting. That’s when the series stops having the intelligence it has.

That is to say, we can conclude that, at least according to the creative team of the series, a season 5 is required to continue the story, but also that we are close to seeing the end.

    ‘You’ season 5: release date

Everything will depend on when Netflix gives the green light to the season. Typically, Netflix waits a month to see viewership performance and make a decision. If Season 5 is confirmed this spring, we can expect a close to two-year hiatus between seasons, similar to previous ones.

That is, we don’t expect to see ‘You’ season 5 until late 2024 or 2025. Of course, the season could be split into two parts again, especially if it’s the (officially announced) final season.

‘You’ season 5: plot, what will happen?

The story of the fourth season was quite self-contained and came to a satisfying conclusion. We know where each of the characters ends up (many behind bars), and there are no giant plot threads left to resolve (except for Jenna Ortega’s Ellie).

Joel Goldberg has embraced his darker side and can use the money and power he has over Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) to continue to protect himself from consequences for his actions. The Joe Goldberg of the season finale is powerful and untouchable. Kate accepts him, willing to overlook the darker sides of him. He seems like he fits her more than Victoria Pedretti’s Love Quinn.

In season 5 we could see the most terrifying Joe given his power and his feeling of untouchable. However, if it’s the end of the series, we hope that things don’t go so well for him and that the outcome ends up giving him what he deserves in one way or another.

In the same interview with Sera Gamble that we have previously cited, the showrunner confirms that her intention is for Joe to receive the consequences for his actions:

The conversation that we have between the writers, between Greg and myself, and a lot with Penn, is about the fact that it would be nice to end his arc with some kind of justice. Guys like this don’t usually see much justice in the world. That’s hard to plot. How does Joe Goldberg fit into a world where he has been marking people with bricks in broad daylight for years? And he is pretty! And he gets away with it. The deepest question we often throw in the writers’ room is, ‘What is real justice? What would hurt Joe the most?’

That is, the ending that the creators want is justice for Joe, although we’ll still have to find out exactly what kind of justice that is. We assume that both jail and death will be possibilities…

‘You’ season 5: trailer and images

Season 5 of ‘You’ has not yet been confirmed, so it is too soon to have some kind of graphic material, whether they be a trailer or images, of it. As they appear, you will find them here.

For now, we must settle for the fact that the first four seasons of ‘You’ are already available on Netflix Spain.
