Régé-Jean Page seems to be a boy full of surprises. The British-Zimbabwean actor, who appeared in the first season of Bridgerton, achieved instant star status. Alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in the Netflix blockbuster The Man in Gray, he will soon be reuniting with Chris Pine and Hugh Grant on the big screen in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Thieves.
But it is now starting production. Deadline Peacock is developing Excellence: 8 Fights, an eight-episode event series about boxing legend Muhammad Ali, based on Jonathan Agee’s biography, titled. Ali: Life.
The project was launched by Oscar-winning BlackKklansman co-writer Kevin Wilmot, backed by Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment company, as well as Regé-Jean Page and producer Emily Brown. Régé-Jean Page is currently executive producing, but no deal has been reached to play Ali.
Written by Kevin Wilmot, the series chronicles eight distinct and defining moments in the iconic life of Muhammad Ali. Each episode will be framed by one of his fights, but what the episode is really about is the infighting or drama outside the ring. It’s about exploring the struggle that unfolds in the heart and mind of one of the most important and controversial figures of the 20th century.
Brilliance: 8 Fights is a true passion project long backed by Revelations Entertainment, high on CBS Studios’ priority list. They teamed up to acquire the rights to Jonathan Agee’s book shortly after its publication in October 2017, with the intention of developing it as an event miniseries.
