Who is Yennefer of Vengerberg

Almost a hundred years old, Yennefer of Vengerberg was known for her beauty. In The Witcher, the character has wavy black hair, a pale triangular face with pronounced cheekbones, ragged eyebrows, and purple eyes. Her nose is slightly long, her mouth is pale, and her eyebrows are natural and a little ragged.

Her female form resembles that of a twenty-year-old girl, but on her mother’s side she is a mulatto, meaning she had one-quarter elven blood. This trait is what gives Yennefer magical powers.

The origin of Yennefer in The Witcher

Yennefer was born in 1173 with a rare deformity that affected her spine, leaving her with a humpback, and face. For this reason, the sorceress had a difficult childhood, having also been rejected by her father. On the other hand, Yennefer’s mother, who bore the blood of wizards and elves in her body, claimed her daughter.

Like her mother, Yennefer also had the potential to learn magic. At some point in her life she entered the Aretuza witch school, where she was taken in by Tissaia de Vries. During his early years at the academy, the sorcerer’s apprentice attempted to kill himself due to her appearance, but she was saved by Tissaia.

To prevent Yennefer’s suffering, Tissaia cast a spell on the student to remove the deformities, in exchange for the wizard’s loss of fertility. At the age of 13, the wizard completed his witchcraft training and became a wizard. Later, he began offering magical services to people in the city of Rinde in the kingdom of Redania.

In the process, Yennefer nearly died, but Geralt saved the wizard’s life and the two began a troubled relationship.

The relationship with Geralt and Ciri

The relationship between Yennefer and Geralt has never been smooth. Though they love each other, the two are complicated individuals with strong personalities. They meet at different points in the history of the books, games and series, helping each other with work or running away from dangerous situations.

When Geralt and Yennefer met, the Sorcerer had already had his fate intertwined with that of the young Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon – also known as Ciri – by the Law of Surprise. Since Ciri has magical abilities, Geralt asks Yennefer to tutor the girl.

Early on, Yennefer and Ciri develop a troubled relationship. However, as the years pass, the powerful sorceress begins to see her apprentice as an adopted daughter and develops a great affection for her.
