Ricardo Gomes indicates Abel Ferreira and Jorge Jesus in the list to conquer the Brazilian national team

Brazil technical coordinator highlights quality of Brazilian coaches and says choice will be based on ‘expertise’

Ricardo Gomestechnical coordinator of Brazilian teampointed Abel Ferreiramanager of Palmeiras, and Jorge Jesus, ex Flamengo and currently in Fenerbahçeamong the coaches taken into consideration by CB extension for Tite’s vacancy. The director says that the deciding factor in the choice will be the “expertise” at the job. Currently, Brazil is temporarily commanded by Ramon Menezessub-20 commander.

“It’s not the nationality, it’s the competence. Regardless of our culture, always with Brazilian coaches. But let’s mention two who have been successful here in Brazil, one who is still, in this case, I don’t even consider him a foreigner, Abel, with three or four years at Palmeiras, with success, he already knows the culture”, he revealed, in an interview with the Portuguese newspaper The ball.

For Ricardo Gomes, there are Brazilian coaches qualified for the position, but an impression of “backwardness” was created by Brazilian coaches after their 7-1 loss to Germany in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

“It’s not just knowing football, it’s knowing the culture of the country you coach. I think in Brazil we have competent coaches to exercise, more than one, much more than one. After the 7-1 win in 2014, we have this image that we are arrived late, that we didn’t study and that was inserted into our daily lives,” he commented.

The Brazil team coordinator, who began his coaching career outside of Brazil, recalled Luiz Felipe Scolari’s move in charge of Portugal, when he guided the Portuguese to second place at the European Championship and the 2006 World Cup semi-finals.

“I can guarantee that we have Brazilian coaches qualified to take over. And there are also two Portuguese who were here, one is and one was. We can think about it, just like we had Felipão in 2004 in Portugal,” he concluded.

Ricardo Gomes was chosen for the position of coach coordinator of the Brazil national team earlier this month. Of Tite’s former commission, physiologist Guilherme Passos, Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, and analysts Bruno Baquete and Thomas Koerich still remain. Brazil’s first match after the World Cup will be on March 25, in Morocco, against the local team, which finished the World Cup in Qatar in fourth place.
