John Waters premieres ‘False negative’ in Madrid

He will be the godfather of the tenth edition of RIZOMA and will premiere his monologue in a single performance on June 7 at the Alcázar Theater in Madrid.

On June 7th, the Alcázar Theater in Madrid will host the European premiere of ‘false negative’the only representation in Spain of the humorous monologue of John Waters, 76-year-old filmmaker and writer and an icon in the United States. Among the best films by John Waters are cult titles such as ‘Pink Flamingos’, ‘Hairspray’ or ‘The Mommy Murders’. Tickets, from 22 euros, will go on sale this Friday, May 13.

With this visit, ‘The Pope of Trash’, as William Burroughs baptized him, will be the godfather of the tenth edition of RIZOMA, the intertwined international film and culture festival to be held in Madrid from June 5 to 8 and that brought him to Madrid for the first time in 2011 to pay tribute to him. Born in 1946 in Baltimore, where he maintains his residence, John Waters is an icon known throughout the world for his work as a film director, writer, actor, producer, photographer and visual artist.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the premiere of ‘Pink Flamingos’, the film starring Divine that made Waters a benchmark of the dirtiest, freshest and most shameless cinema. Without losing his essence, John Waters jumped from the purest underground of the 70s to work in the 90s in movies with bigger budgets with stars like Johnny Depp, Kathleen Turner or Melanie Griffith. In his filmography, titles such as ‘Things for females’, ‘Polyester’, ‘Cry Baby’, ‘The murders of mom’, ‘Cecil B. Demente’ or ‘The sex addicts’ stand out.
