The Whistlers on France 2: Will the series continue with street harassment?

The series Les Siffleurs, launched on France 2 last Wednesday, starring Nadia Fares, Charles Berling, Stéphane Montpetit (Un Si Grand Soleil) and Sophie Breyer (Laëtitia), continues tonight with its second and final 90-minute episode.

Created and directed by Natalie Marchak (Instinct), this fiction about street harassment and gender-based violence against women begins when Lila (Ludmila Makowski), a young student, suddenly disappears after a night out with friends. She created @lessiffleurs, a social media account where she posted a “selfie” of herself with each of the men who harassed her on the street every day.

The captain in charge of the investigation, Marian Katsemi, played by Nadia Fares, at first cannot believe that Lila was unconscious from walking around in a miniskirt and provoking the stalkers. But his objectivity is soon questioned when he discovers the charismatic father of the victim’s friend, his instructor at the police academy twenty years ago.

Last week, the first part of this police investigation allowed France 2 to lead the hearings with 3.48 million viewers, or 16% of the entire public. Could this stellar score prompt the channel to order more episodes, despite the rather mixed reception on social media?

Will The Whistlers get a sequel?

The answer is a priori “No”, because The Whistlers was conceived from the beginning as a complete mini-series focused on a very specific investigation, the central element of which is street harassment and the account created by Lila’s character.

Therefore, everything indicates that the Whistlers will not know the continuation and that the investigators camped by Nadia Fares and Stéphane Monpet will not return for another adventure.

On Wednesday, March 22, the new TV movie Une confession, directed by Catherine Frot and Laurent Gerra, will be offered from 21:10 on France 2. The story of Jean Deuber, a fiftysomething with a disillusioned life who sees his wife die in a fatal fall while they are on holiday together. And while the accident path is initially privileged, suspicions quickly fall on Jean…especially after a witness claims to have seen him push his wife.
