Corinthians has almost reached the threshold of R$ 10 million in net profit with the matches played this year at the Neo Química Arena, valid for the Campeonato Paulista.
In total there were seven matches, six in the first phase and the quarter-final duel against Ituano last Sunday when Timão ended up eliminated. At the time, as it was a one-off match, the net profit was split equally between the clubs.
With the sum of the net profit, i.e. after subtracting all expenses, Corinthians managed to collect R$ 9.6 million in matches against Água Santa, Guarani, Botafogo-SP, Palmeiras, Mirassol, Santo André and, finally, Itu Rooster.
The average paying crowd at the Arena was 41,200 fans per game. The smallest number of fans was against Mirassol (36,928 paying) and the largest was against Palmeiras (45,505 paying).
See below the paying audience and net profit in each match of Paulistão in 2023:
Corinthians 3 x 0 Água Santa – 37,796 – R$ 1,430,111.45
Corinthians 2 x 1 Guarani – 39,216 – R$ 1,452,159.30
Corinthians 2 x 0 Botafogo-SP – 41,595 – R$ 1,632,192.34
Corinthians 2 x 2 Palmeiras – 45,505 – R$ 1,585,413.39
Corinthians 3 x 0 Mirassol – 36.928 – R$ 1.350.461,35
Corinthians 3 x 1 Saint André – 43,888 – R$ 1,599,781.19
Corinthians 1 (6) x (7) 1 Ituano – 43,618 – R$ 581,676.94
Total: 288,546 payers
Total net income: BRL 9.6 million
The bad news is due to the fall in the quarterfinals. If Corinthians had won in regular time, they could decide the semifinal at home, against Água Santa, who eliminated São Paulo on penalties. That would mean even more cash, even if split evenly (because it’s a single game).
Knocked out early by Paulista, Timão now has a long spell out of the grass. The next scheduled match is the match against Cruzeiro, on April 15, at their stadium, for the first round of the Brasileirão.
The next match, however, could come a little sooner. Libertadores’ first round of the group stage will kick off on 5 March, with the group stage draw taking place on 27 March.
