The list also features a list of several vaccines that had to be discarded during the former president’s administration, such as 39 million covid-19 vaccines that were incinerated because they expired.

defences

The Ministry of Health of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) commented on the complaint and said that “the waste scenario reflects the carelessness of the previous government”. Also according to the file, the Bolsonaro government has not shared this information with the current leadership and which, currently, seeks to adjust these stocks and seek solutions with states and municipalities to avoid further losses.

Marcelo Queiroga, who was Minister of Health between March 2021 and December 2022 in the Bolsonaro government, said that this information is under the care of the technical areas. Luiz Henrique Mandetta, who held the position until April 2020, reclaimed the portfolio effort to manage the title while he was in place. Mandetta added that, in the case of vaccines, their use also depends on the adhesion of the population.

Another former Bolsonaro health minister, Eduardo Pazuello – who served from June 2020 to March 2021 – declined to comment.
