Mike Flanagan wants to bring Doctor Sleep characters to his adaptation of The Dark Tower

With each passing day, we hope to get closer to what Stephen King fans have always dreamed of: a true adaptation of the dark tower. The writer’s impressive achievement is a sprawling epic encompassing all sorts of elements of the author’s larger literary universe, notoriously unsuccessful in previous attempts at adaptation. As it stands, the rights to this property now belong to Mike Flanagan, the acclaimed filmmaker who tackled King’s notoriously complicated stories like Gerald’s game AND medical sleep with considerable success. And while medical sleep – his adaptation of King’s the splendor sequels, miraculously bridging the gap between the author’s version of the story and Kubrick’s masterpiece that King famously hated – didn’t set the box office on fire, ending several planned spin-offs – could there be a future for these characters on the big screen yet .

It is because, as al says dash podcastsFlanagan sees a way to bring the medical sleep characters in their version the dark tower – I’m sure it will make up for having to drop your plans for the Dick Hallorann origin story. “The beauty of King’s universe is that everything is connected. And the connection point of these connections is the dark tower“, he explains. ” In the dark tower universe, there are all these other characters in King’s world that come into play in different ways. When you make changes to the source material to introduce characters that could have played a major role in this story… medical sleep it was written later the dark tower has been completed.”

According to the director, there is a lot of potential to add these characters to King’s epic series. “Stone opened in dark tower universe, like a Breaker [telepathic agent]It’s really interesting,” he says. “There is a character in the dark tower named Dandelo, who I think is a cousin of True Knot, who is this emotional vampire but who thrives on laughter instead of fear. But there’s room in this world for True Knots themselves, there’s room for Rose The Hat. Maybe there’s room for Danny Torrance. While Flanagan has the rights and a new deal looms with Amazon, there are specific plans for dark tower movies or shows have not yet been confirmed. “There are all kinds of things that could be surprising, if we can make this property work,” he enthuses. “There are ways to extract other things from King’s universe, and I think the splendor universe – the medical sleep universe – could fit right into it. Especially since, in our film, Dick Hallorann almost points his finger the dark tower in her last scene with Dan.
