Pirates of the Caribbean 3: Freeze frame in 24 minutes and take a good look at this map

Like other well-known popular culture franchises such as Star Wars, The Matrix or Indiana Jones, the Pirates of the Caribbean saga started in the early 2000s by director Gore Verbinski contains several minor references, especially related to the Disney attraction from which it is inspired.

Some easter eggs—like the scene in which Jack Sparrow tries to break out of prison with a dog’s brain bone—jump right into the eyes of fans so they don’t have to make any effort to see them. But others, like the ones we’ll talk about here, are much harder to spot, or even downright impossible to find unless you know exactly where to look for them.

The hidden detail that interests us today is at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Third Part of the Saga, which was released in 2007. To see it, you’ll have to freeze frame at 24 minutes and 16 seconds. The movie, to be exact.

After an explosive passage to the Singapore side, Will Turner, Barbosa and their companions now head to Davy Jones’ lair to find there Jack Sparrow, who was devoured by the Kraken at the end of the second film. Hoping to reach this legendary and secret location, Will consults a nautical chart he received from San Feng.

It is this document that you, as the characters, will have to explore to find the Easter Egg!

To the right of your screen, in the sixth circle of the map, next to Will Turner’s right hand, you can actually make out a very small silhouette of Mickey Mouse facing a huge tiger. You may need to zoom in and/or increase the brightness of your screen to see it better, but this is a famous Disney mascot.

As fans probably know, it’s not uncommon for the world’s most famous mouse to wander onto studio productions. In many Disney animated films, you will be able to recognize the three circles that make up his unforgettable face. For example, among King Triton’s subjects in The Little Mermaid, Fagin’s Clock, Oliver and Company, or even the Queen’s Necklace in Rapunzel.
