Denzel Washington joins Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel

Now that the long gestation Gladiator As the sequel enters production, director Ridley Scott is clearly wasting no time putting together a top-notch ensemble. With Paul Mescal and, more recently, Barry Keoghan cast in two of the lead roles, Scott adds Denzel Washington to the lineup.

That would, of course, mean a reunion for Scott and Washington after work in 2007. American mobsterstarring the latter as crime boss Frank Lucas.

The role he would play here has not been revealed Expirationpertains to casting, but Washington was apparently swayed by the “badass” role writer David Scarpa created for him, and a meeting with Scott helped seal the deal.

gladiator 2 It will be set years after the events of the first film and will see Mescal play an adult version of the character Lucius, as originally created by Spencer Treat Clark. Keoghan is in line to be the main antagonist, the Roman Emperor Geta (a fictional version of a real ruler).

The sequel is expected to hit theaters by November 22 next year.
