Video from 2019 showing a doctor arrested after denying treatment circulates out of context

It is false that the arrest of a doctor from Guaratuba (PR), who claims in a video circulating on the networks that he has not received a salary for more than 60 days, is linked to the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The images were actually recorded in 2019, again during the management of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), and show the moment in which the professional Rogério Augusto Perillo is detained by the agents of the Military Police of Paraná, in the emergency room of the city, after denying treatment for patients.

The decontextualized video went viral on TikTok, a platform on which it has accumulated more than 500,000 views by this Monday afternoon (20). The content was also shared on Instagram.

Guaratuba’s doctor is arrested for not wanting to work due to lack of salary. He will give PT.

The posts use videos from 2019 showing a doctor being arrested to attack the Lula government

The publications circulating on the networks deceive by claiming that the video of the arrest of a doctor from Guaratuba (PR) took place during the Lula government. The images were actually recorded in March 2019also during the Bolsonaro administration, when healthcare professional Rogério Augusto Perillo was arrested for contempt and civil disobedience after refusing to go to the Santa Casa emergency room in the city.

In interview after being released from prison, Perillo declared that he had not received a salary for more than 60 days and that he did not deny treatment to patients with serious health conditions.

In a statement released at the time, the Guaratuba town hall denied being responsible for paying the salary of the doctor, who was an external employee of the Exalife company, which was part of a public health consortium. The provider, in turn, denied Perillo’s allegations and said he would take “judicial and administrative measures” against the professional.
