Sam Claflin has shown his regret for one of the most harrowing roles of his career.
The actor, recently seen in Prime Video’s ‘Everybody Loves Daisy Jones’, tried to shed his “rom-com” image playing the villain in ‘The Nightingale’, Jennifer Kent’s heartbreaking film.
Set in 1825, in the Van Diemen’s Land colony, the Australian thriller stars Aisling Franciosi, as an Irish convict seeking revenge against Lieutenant Hawkins, played by Claflin.
We are not going into spoilersbut let’s say that Hawkins could be one of the most ruthless villains that can be seen on the screenand that the role was a big change from the actor’s previous jobs.
In a recent chat with G.Q.the ‘Hunger Games’ star, admitted he wasn’t sure he felt comfortable exploring that dark side.
“I was desperately chasing an Oscar by doing things that weren’t really I. I transformed physically and emotionally“, he commented.
“It was too much. I think it was a turning point in my life. I don’t think I could do it again“.
The actor can currently be seen in the shoes of singer Billy Dunne, in ‘Everybody Loves Daisy Jones’, the series loosely inspired by the popular musical band: Fleetwood Mac.
Claflin is part of a great cast that includes Riley Keoughin the role of Daisy, Suki Waterhouse, Camila Morrone, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon, Nabiyah Be, Tom Wright, and Timothy Olyphant.
Based on the homonymous novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the series premieres two weekly episodes, premiering its last two episodes on March 24.
