“Playing The Young and the Restless is one of the greatest joys of my life”: Tricia Cast (Nina) shares her memories

All fans of The Young and the Restless remember the character of Nina, who appeared in the cult series in 1986. As a teenager and pregnant, shortly after giving birth to a young woman, the devil Rose Devil stole her baby…

Plague in the early days Nina later evolved and became wiser, especially thanks to her best friend Cricket. Over the years, the main character has gone through many hardships, faced powerful rivals and shared the lives of several unreputable men!

Her interpreter, Tricia Cast, decided to leave the series in 2001, but punctually renewed her iconic role throughout the seasons… It will soon be Nina again in the US Intrigue, in the soap’s 50th anniversary. Opera!

For AlloCiné, the actor recalls his trip to Genoa and shares his memories…

AlloCiné: What do you remember from the first day of working on “Les Feux de l’amour”?

Tricia Cast: Excited to have you join this already popular series! I met Lauralee Bell, Michael Damian, and Darlene Conley on the landing. I arrived and Nina was already pregnant… it was very exciting! I had acted in a TV series before, so I wasn’t too nervous. I was particularly impressed with the whole big machine that was this series!

How did you feel when you discovered the story of the abduction of Nina and her child?

I couldn’t wait! It gave me the opportunity to play with Darlene Conley, who was a fabulous actress. I knew I would have fun with this! Then, this plot became a real challenge as it progressed. I was grateful to be given the opportunity to work on such dramatic scenes.

People still remember this arch, which lasted for a very long time. Can you imagine it would have such an impact?

I’m always so happy when I see that the audience remembers it… I’m also surprised, if I say to myself, that it stayed in their minds for so long! it’s an honor

Much later, Nina also tried to kill herself. How did you prepare this intense intrigue of “Fire of Love”?

I have known people who have followed through and who have experienced this despair. I invested a lot in this story with the testimonials of my friends.

Who do you think was Nina’s worst enemy?

He had a lot, didn’t he? (Laughs) I think Jill and Kathryn’s combination was the worst! When she was pregnant, she was locked in the attic for a long time… (laughs)

Were you close to Gene Cooper, who disappeared in 2013?

We were very close. In 2009 I returned to Les Feux de l’amour for two years and he welcomed me into his home. We have always been friends, but this time we became even more so. We laughed a lot, I miss her a lot. He was like a mentor when I started on the show. He got everyone’s attention with just one look! She was our matriarch.

Who do you think was your character’s best boyfriend?

There were a few… (laughs) I think the healthiest relationship was with Ryan. Despite being in competition with Victoria, Philip, who she cheated on and married, or David Kimble, who she ended up killing, Ryan was arguably the best for her! (laughs)

Which Nina would you rather play: the plague of the 1980s or the caring mother of today?

Characters who cause trouble are the funniest! Actors will always tell you that bad guys are more interesting to play… but I find the point in playing Nina as a devoted mother to her children.

And finally, what’s your favorite story about Nina?

I really enjoyed the days when he was a bit unpredictable and the fact that Cricket and Danny took him under their wing. They were doing everything to make it more respectable for Philip! (laughs)

Are you really friends with Lorali Belle?

Cricket and Nina have the same friendship that Loral and I have in life. I love !

Why did you decide to leave Les Feux de l’amour more than 20 years ago?

I fell in love with a wonderful person who lived away from filming in Los Angeles, Tennessee. I wanted to be with him, in our big house in the woods. I am still there today and I feel good there.

How do you think the series has evolved over the years?

I think it was beautifully done. The Young and the Restless has kept great characters for many seasons and introduced a new, very beautiful one. I love Abby and all those kids. Their performers are very talented and I enjoy watching them.

Would you like to return to the series as a recurring actor?

I want it too much. Coming back is like going home and being reunited with my family. I’m here and always ready to come back if asked!

What would you like Nina to experience in future stories?

Family time is always appreciated. She has a second son, Ronan, who is not currently on the show, and I would love to be able to explore their connection someday. They have a difficult relationship and broke up on bad terms. It would be nice to see how they would handle this. Otherwise, I also want some devilish game! (laughs) I’m interested to see that. Nina is a rich character, the screenwriters could do a lot with her…

Fiction “The Young and the Restless” will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023. What does this mean for you?

I realize that I am a small part of something huge. It’s been an iconic series for five decades and I’m honored to be a part of it. Congratulations to everyone involved in the creation of the series.

Do you regret your trip here?

Not for a second! I loved every moment in the fire of love. This is one of the greatest joys in my life!
